It is conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Kerala, and is taken by candidates seeking seats in the government law colleges of the state and in the private and self financing law colleges that participate in the state admission process. The test is held separately for the five year integrated law course, which is entered after class 12, and for the three year law course, which is entered after graduation, and there is also a version for postgraduate law

Overview expand_more
The papers are objective and multiple choice, and the areas assessed generally include English language and comprehension, general knowledge and current affairs, reasoning both logical and analytical, and legal aptitude or awareness of basic legal principles, with the postgraduate version testing core law subjects instead. Candidates apply online to the office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, appear on the announced date, and then take part in the centralised allotment where they register options for colleges and courses. Allotment proceeds in rounds on the basis of rank, reservation, communal and special category claims, and the seat matrix published for the year. Government law colleges, university departments and participating self financing institutions are covered by the process. The exact number of questions, the duration, the marking scheme, negative marking and the syllabus outline are set out in the prospectus issued with each notification, and that prospectus is what candidates should study.
Eligibility expand_more
For the five year integrated law course, candidates must have passed the higher secondary examination of Kerala or an examination recognised as equivalent, in any stream. For the three year law course, a bachelor degree from a recognised university is required. For postgraduate law admission, a recognised law degree is required. Applicants must satisfy the nativity, residence and category conditions the state lays down for reservation and for fee categories, and produce the certificates that prove them. How to Prepare Based on KLEE Exam Pattern

The KLEE 2026 pattern gives clear signals on where to invest your preparation time. Here are seven tips derived directly from the section structure and marking scheme.

  • Focus most of your preparation on Aptitude for Legal Studies — it carries the highest marks and acts as the tiebreaker.
  • Practise passage-based legal reasoning questions daily to build speed in applying principles to facts.
  • Allocate regular time to General English grammar and vocabulary, since it is the second-largest section.
  • Keep up with current affairs for the General Knowledge section — revise monthly compilations.
  • For Arithmetic, master basic concepts like percentages, ratios, and averages; the section is small but scoring.
  • Solve previous year KLEE papers under timed conditions to get used to the 120-minute duration.
  • Remember the marking scheme: +3 for every correct answer and −1 for every wrong answer. Avoid blind guessing.

KLEE 2026 Exam Pattern

KLEE 2026 is a 120-minute (2-hour) Computer-Based Test (CBT). The exam is conducted online at designated exam centres, and there is no pen-and-paper option.

The exam has 120 objective MCQs in total, each with four options. There are no descriptive, numerical-integer, or subjective questions in the paper.

KLEE 2026 Sections and Weightage

KLEE 2026 has 4 sections. There is no per-section time limit, so you can distribute the full 120 minutes across all four sections as you choose.

Section Number of Questions Marks Weightage
General English 36 108 30%
General Knowledge 27 81 22.5%
Arithmetic & Mental Ability 15 45 12.5%
Aptitude for Legal Studies 42 126 35%
Total 120 360 100%

Marking Scheme

KLEE 2026 follows a +3/−1 scheme. A correct answer earns 3 marks, a wrong answer deducts 1 mark, and an unattempted question scores zero.

This scheme applies uniformly across all four sections. Unattempted questions carry no penalty — it is safer to leave a doubtful question blank than to guess randomly.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

The minimum qualifying marks vary by category. Scoring below this threshold makes you ineligible for the rank list.

  • General and SEBC category: 36 marks (10% of 360)
  • SC/ST category: 18 marks (5% of 360)

Tiebreaker Rules

When two students score the same total marks, CEE Kerala uses the Aptitude for Legal Studies score as the first tiebreaker. If that is also equal, the General English score is used next.

If scores remain tied after both sections, the older student receives the higher rank.

Exam Pattern Changes

The KLEE 2026 exam pattern is unchanged from 2025. The same 120-question, 360-mark, CBT format with a +3/−1 marking scheme continues.

Previous-year papers are directly useful for practice.

Courses Offered

KLEE 2026 offers admission to 5-year LLB (integrated, after Class 12) and 3-year LLB (after graduation) programmes at law colleges across Kerala. The total seat intake across both programmes exceeds 4,000 seats statewide.

Preparation Strategy

Aptitude for Legal Studies

This section carries the highest weightage — 42 questions for 126 marks, which is 35% of the total score. Give this section the most preparation time and attention.

Practise principle-fact MCQs daily and study Constitutional provisions and landmark cases systematically.

General English

Thirty-six questions (108 marks, 30% weightage) reward consistent grammar practice and vocabulary building. Solve timed reading comprehension passages every day.

General Knowledge

Cover current affairs of the last 12 months and static GK — especially Indian polity, history, and Kerala-specific events. The 27-question section rewards consistent daily reading.

Arithmetic & Mental Ability

Only 15 questions, but each carries 3 marks. Master Class X-level arithmetic, number series, and basic logical reasoning — these are among the fastest marks to secure.

Negative Marking Management

Three wrong answers cancel one correct answer under the −1 scheme. Skip questions you are unsure about — a blank scores zero, a wrong answer costs you real marks.

Time Management

With 120 questions in 120 minutes, aim for 1 minute per question. Regular timed mock tests reveal which sections slow you down. Adjust your section-wise time based on your mock performance.

Tiebreaker Advantage

CEE Kerala uses Legal Studies score first, then English score, to break rank ties. Strong performance in these two sections determines your final rank near the merit cutoff.

KLEE 2026 Exam Pattern

KLEE 2026 is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) with a total duration of 120 minutes. There is no per-section time limit, so you can manage the full 120 minutes across all sections as you prefer.

The exam has 120 objective multiple-choice questions in total. Each question has four options, and there are no descriptive or subjective questions.

Section Number of Questions
General English 36
General Knowledge 27
Arithmetic & Mental Ability 15
Aptitude for Legal Studies 42

Marking Scheme

KLEE 2026 follows a +3/-1 marking scheme. A correct answer earns 3 marks, a wrong answer deducts 1 mark, and an unattempted question scores zero.

This scheme applies uniformly across all four sections. It is safer to leave a doubtful question blank than to guess randomly, as guessing carries a penalty.

Section Weightage

Aptitude for Legal Studies carries the highest weightage in KLEE 2026. This section has 42 questions for 126 marks, which is 35% of the total score.

  • Total marks for the exam: 360
  • Aptitude for Legal Studies: 126 marks (35%)
  • General English, General Knowledge, and Arithmetic & Mental Ability make up the remaining marks

Qualifying Marks

The minimum qualifying score for KLEE 2026 is 36 marks for General and SEBC category students. This is 10% of the total 360 marks.

For SC/ST students, the minimum qualifying score is 18 marks, which is 5% of the total marks. Scoring below this threshold makes you ineligible for the rank list.

Tiebreaker Rules

When two students score the same total marks, CEE Kerala uses the Aptitude for Legal Studies score as the first tiebreaker. If that score is also equal, the General English score is used next.

If scores remain tied after these checks, the older student receives the higher rank.

Exam Pattern Changes

The KLEE 2026 exam pattern is unchanged from 2025. The same 120-question, 360-mark, CBT format with a +3/-1 marking scheme continues.
