Entrance exam

Rajasthan Lateral Entry in Engineering Program

Engineering UG Offline
event May 2026

Lateral entry in engineering in Rajasthan is an admission route rather than an entrance examination of its own. It allows diploma holders and eligible science graduates to join a bachelor of engineering or technology programme directly in the second year, so that they complete the degree in less time than a student entering the first year. Admission is handled through the state's centralised engineering admission process, which prepares a merit list from the marks obtained in the qualifying diploma or degree and then allots seats to the participating government and private engineering colleges

Overview expand_more
The process is run online by the admission authority appointed by the Government of Rajasthan under the state's engineering admission process, working with the state technical university and its affiliated colleges. Candidates register on the admission portal, pay the processing fee, enter their diploma or degree marks, upload documents for verification, and fill in preferences of college and branch. A merit list is drawn up, after which seats are allotted in successive rounds, with reporting, fee payment and internal sliding, and vacant seats are filled in later or mop up rounds. Seats are offered against the supernumerary lateral entry intake in each participating institute. Because this is a counselling process, the important dates to watch are registration, choice filling and reporting deadlines rather than a test date.
Eligibility expand_more
The route is meant for candidates who hold a three year diploma in engineering or technology in a relevant branch from a recognised state board of technical education, and in most years also for candidates with a bachelor of science degree, in which case they are usually expected to have studied mathematics at class 12 or degree level and may be required to take bridge subjects during the programme. Domicile, category and reservation rules apply because these are state seats. The minimum marks needed in the qualifying diploma or degree, category relaxations, branch mapping rules and any age condition are stated only in the official Rajasthan engineering admission notification for that year, which candidates should read before registering.
