Karnataka PUC-II Exam Pattern

Karnataka 2nd PUC exam syllabus has been slashed by 30% for the academic year 2021-22. Students can check the revised syllabus on the official website of the Board.

Karnataka Board has also released the blueprint of the exam pattern for all subjects.

Karnataka PUC II Exam Pattern: Science Stream

The science stream has a total of 6 subjects, including the compulsory language paper, optional paper, and elective paper. The total marks for each paper is 100.

Apart from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, students can choose Biology as an optional subject for PCM-major and vice versa for PCB-major. The option for the language paper remains the same.

Karnataka PUC II Exam Pattern: Commerce Stream

The commerce stream has 3 main subjects: Accountancy, Economics, and Business Studies. The language paper is compulsory, and students can select the second language as the optional fifth subject.

The syllabus for Economics, if reduced, will follow the same pattern for commerce as well as arts stream.

Karnataka PUC II Exam Pattern: Arts Stream

There are mainly 5 compulsory subjects in the Arts stream. Students can keep psychology, home science, language paper, etc., as optional papers.

History, Political Science, Geology, Geography, and Economics are the main subjects. Each paper is of 100 marks, and it is necessary to pass in both compulsory and optional subjects.

Karnataka Board: Revised Syllabus

Karnataka 2nd PUC and SSLC exam syllabus has been slashed by 30%. The pattern of reduction is similar to CBSE and national level competitive exams like NEET and JEE Main.

The syllabus revision follows this pattern to benefit candidates aspiring for national level entrance examinations. If the syllabus of the two exams were different, students would find it difficult to complete both syllabi in a short time, as half of the academic year has already been completed.

Commerce: In the commerce stream, there are three main subjects: Accountancy, Economics, and Business Studies. In Accountancy, PUC-II has two parts: (a) Partnership and Company Accounts and (b) Financial Statements. It is quite possible that part B will be omitted, as the other topics are very important from the higher course perspective.

Science Syllabus Revision

The Science syllabus will be revised following the CBSE pattern of syllabus reduction. Chapters important for competitive exams will be kept so that candidate preparation stays aligned.

The NTA has not yet confirmed any syllabus reduction for JEE Main, NEET, or other competitive exams.

Important Resources and Books

The Karnataka board requires 75% attendance to qualify for the examination. Regular attendance helps students follow the syllabus and clarify doubts with peers.

  • Coaching classes or tutoring can provide extra practice in weaker subjects. Schools remain the primary source of learning; coaching is only complementary.
  • Previous year papers are available for all subjects on the official website. Annual, supplementary, and example question papers help students understand the paper pattern.
  • State board textbooks are the main study resource. These books are published and approved by the board and cover the complete syllabus.
  • Reference books can be used, but students should know their syllabus well. Avoid overloading with too much study material.

Karnataka Board Preparation Tips

The SSLC Examination requires covering the full Class X syllabus. The following tips can help students in their practice.

Preparing With Schedule

A proper schedule helps manage time and increases efficiency. List chapters by marks weightage to complete the syllabus on time.

Prioritizing Board Textbooks

Papers are based entirely on board textbooks. Students should complete board books first before moving to other readers.

Giving Time For Self-study

Self-study is often the reason students score fewer marks despite coaching. Set aside at least 3 hours a day to revise what was learned that day.

Self Analyzing Of Preparation

After finishing the syllabus, self-analysis helps identify areas needing more attention. Solve papers and note down mistakes to improve.
