NEET 2026 Safe Attempt Strategy

  • Start with the NEET Biology section as it is more theoretically based.
  • Students often find the NEET Biology section easier than any other section of the NEET question paper.
  • After the Biology section, move to the NEET Chemistry section as the maximum number of questions in the NEET Chemistry section are theory-based.
  • Finally, solve the NEET Physics section. This section includes numerical-based questions, which are often time-consuming.
Target Score Correct Answers Needed Max Wrong Allowed Safe Attempt Range Accuracy Required
650+ 163–166 6–8 170–174 95%
680+ 170–173 4–6 174–176 96–97%
700+ 175–178 1–3 176–179 98%

NEET 2026 Section-Wise Time Management

You must have a proper strategy to solve the NEET 2026 question paper. Students who manage time effectively while solving the NEET question paper have higher chances of scoring higher in the examination.

Students can follow the time management strategies as mentioned below.

  • For OMR filling, it takes around 5 seconds to fill one circle, and for 180 questions, it will take you 15 minutes.
  • Keep another 15 minutes for unexpected situations while solving the NEET question paper.
  • Distribute the remaining 150 minutes between Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • Biology will take less time as it carries mainly theory-based questions. You can assign around 50 minutes to answer NEET Biology questions.
  • Most of the questions in Chemistry are also theory-based; however, some questions may include calculations.
  • You can assign around 50 minutes to solve NEET Chemistry questions.
  • NEET Physics carries questions involving calculations and consumes the maximum time among the sections.
  • You can assign around 60 minutes to answer questions in NEET Physics.
Particulars Time Allotted
OMR Filling 15 minutes
Unexpected Situations/Reviewing Difficult Questions 15 minutes
Biology 40 minutes
Chemistry 50 minutes
Physics 60 minutes

Ques. How Much Time Should Be Ideally Spent on Each Section in NEET 2026?

Ans. In NEET, time should be allotted based on the total question asked and the difficulty of the subject.

Ideal Time Allocation

Subject Ideal Time
Biology 45–50 min
Chemistry 45–50 min
Physics 70–80 min

Ques. Is It Advisable to Attempt All 180 Questions Within the Given Time?

Ans. No, attemption all questions are not mandatory. By skipping questions smartly your final score can be improved.

NEET Attempt Strategy vs Outcome

Attempted Questions Typical Score Outcome
160–165 High accuracy, safer rank
175–180 Higher negative marking risk

NCERT vs Reference Books for NEET 2026 Syllabus

Preparing for NEET 2026 requires the right strategy, right guidance, and right resources. Using NCERT and reference books as resources can be helpful only when both resources are balanced. NCERT could be beneficial in developing the fundamentals; however, reference books are best for detailed explanations and higher concepts.

NCERT books lack detailed explanations and advanced concepts; however, most of the NEET questions are directly asked from the NCERT books. Reference books cover advanced concepts, but include too much information, consuming too much time during preparation.

NCERT uses simple and direct language to help you understand concepts. Whereas reference books use complicated language while defining the concepts.

People asked on Quora: What should be the best material for neet 2026 after observing the difficulty level of neet 2025?

Disha Saini Responded: NCERT is best for all the three subjects. Difficult questions of Physics in NEET 2025 were mostly modified NCERT back exercises. For Physics no need to go into NCERT theory but solve all the back exercises. You can use NCERT exemplar for thorough preparation. Solve JEE mains pyq's as well.

Moleen Raut Answered: I used to attend all classes sincerely. After classes, I used to thoroughly read that topic, solve questions and do homework. This was my daily routine. Then, before tests I used revise specific topics. Then for test series, I used to make my daily, weekly and even monthly schedule of revisions depending on dates. My revision stategy was truely depend on subjects. But discussing here is irrelevant.

The books I used are:

  • Physics- Errorless vol 1 and 2: Although I also solved D.C. Pandey and C.P. Singh, since my scores in physics were low. But still I prefer to use Errorless till and do not use another.
  • Organic Chemistry— Himanshu Sharma: But I will recommend to solve M S Chauhan( I solved some chapters from it)
  • Physical Chemistry— N. Awasthi is best book for physical chemistry. I have solved every question from it except excluded chapters and solutions.
  • Inorganic Chemistry— I stuck to only NCERT.
  • Biology— MTG Fingertips and questions from neetprep

NEET Cutoff 2025

As per the NEET Cutoff 2025, for AIQ seats, the candidate must score 600+ to get a government MBBS seat, whereas, under the State Quota, students with scores of around 500–600 have more chances, particularly in the reserved categories.

SC/ST students may be competitive with 420+ scores under the State Quota. The General/EWS candidates must target 620+ for a safe score, OBC target 600+, and SC/ST target 500+ under AIQ, while slightly lower scores may secure a seat in the colleges under State Quota.

NEET Cutoff 2025 for AIQ – Government Colleges

Under AIQ (15% seats), the NEET 2025 General/EWS cutoff is expected to be 620–680+, reflecting tough competition. The OBC candidates need around 590–610, which is low but also competitive. SC/ST cutoffs are 520–550, showing the reservation policy, which gives ease of accessibility to reserved categories while maintaining competitive levels throughout the country.

Category Estimated Cutoff Marks

OBC 590 – 610
SC 520 – 550
ST 520 – 550

OBC cutoffs range between 550–590, with SC/ST cutoffs even lower, to 420–490, expanding accessibility for the reserved categories within their states.
