What is the CUSAT CAT Cutoff 2026?

The CUSAT CAT cutoff is the closing rank for each B.Tech branch and category after every counselling round. It represents the highest rank number that secured a seat in a given branch at a specific campus. A candidate with a rank equal to or better than the closing rank was eligible for that branch. A lower rank number indicates a stronger candidate.

CUSAT does not set a separate minimum qualifying mark for admission. The rank list alone determines who participates in counselling. There are two types of cutoffs to understand. The rank list cutoff is the last rank published on the CUSAT CAT rank list. Candidates ranked beyond this point cannot enter counselling. The admission cutoff is the branch-wise closing rank within counselling. Your rank must fall within this number to get your preferred branch.

CUSAT CAT Cutoff 2026: Important Dates

The CUSAT CAT 2026 result was published on June 11, 2026, with 28,225 candidates on the B.Tech rank list. The Round 1 B.Tech seat allotment is expected in the last week of June 2026.

B.Tech option entry at admissions.cusat.ac.in is open until June 28, 2026. Round 1 closing ranks, which are the first official CUSAT CAT cutoff for 2026, are expected shortly after that date.

ECE at SOE Thrikkakkara 943 - -
CSE at CUCEK Kuttanad - 6,161 -

Factors Affecting CUSAT CAT Cutoff

Several factors influence the closing ranks each year. The number of candidates appearing for the exam and the difficulty level of the question paper affect the rank distribution. The total number of seats available in each branch and campus also plays a role.

Reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, OEC, EWS, BPL, and PWD get separate seat pools with higher closing rank numbers. Option entry choices made by candidates during counselling also shape the final cutoffs.

CUSAT CAT 2026 Cutoff: Course-Wise Closing Ranks

CSE at SOE Thrikkakkara had a closing rank of 728 in 2025, making it the most competitive branch at CUSAT. The closing rank tightened by 1,660 ranks over two years, from 2,388 in 2023.

ECE at SOE Thrikkakkara closed at rank 943 in 2025. Its cutoff has tightened by 1,950 ranks over two years. CSE at CUCEK Kuttanad closed at rank 6,161 in 2024, making it accessible for mid-range rankers.

CUSAT CAT Cutoff: Category-Wise

Reserved categories get separate seat pools with higher closing rank numbers compared to General Merit. SC, ST, OBC, OEC, EWS, BPL, and PWD candidates have their own cutoffs for each branch and campus.

The exact category-wise closing ranks for 2026 will be published after each allotment round at admissions.cusat.ac.in.

CUSAT CAT Previous Year Cutoff Trends

CUCEK Kuttanad closing ranks are roughly 6 to 12 times higher than SOE for the same branch. This makes CUCEK Kuttanad more accessible for mid-range rankers.

If your rank is below 1,500, you have a strong chance at CSE or ECE at SOE Thrikkakkara based on the 2025 trend. The cutoff for CSE at SOE Thrikkakkara tightened from 2,388 in 2023 to 728 in 2025.

Expected CUSAT CAT Cutoff 2026

Round 1 B.Tech closing ranks are expected in the last week of June or early July 2026, after the June 28 option entry deadline. These closing ranks will be the first official CUSAT CAT cutoff for 2026.

Based on the 2025 trend, candidates with ranks below 1,500 have a strong chance at CSE or ECE at SOE Thrikkakkara. Mid-range rankers can consider CUCEK Kuttanad, where closing ranks are higher.

Factors Affecting CUSAT CAT Cutoff

The CUSAT CAT cutoff changes every year. Several factors decide how tight or loose the closing rank will be for each branch. Knowing these helps you set a realistic rank target before option entry.

  • Total qualified candidates: More candidates on the rank list means stronger competition. In 2026, 28,225 candidates qualify for B.Tech counselling at CUSAT.
  • Seat availability per branch: CUSAT has a fixed number of seats per branch at each campus. Fewer seats in a high-demand branch push the closing rank lower.
  • Exam difficulty: A tougher paper reduces scores across the board. This can push the closing rank higher, as fewer candidates score in the top range.
  • Branch demand: CSE and ECE draw the most applicants every year. Their closing ranks are far lower than branches like Civil or Safety Engineering.
  • Reservation policy: CUSAT reserves seats for SC, ST, OBC, OEC, EWS, BPL, and PWD categories. Each category has its own closing rank, at a higher rank number than General Merit.
  • Number of counselling rounds: Closing ranks loosen with each successive round. As top-ranked students reject or upgrade their seats, those vacancies go to candidates with higher rank numbers.
  • Seat matrix changes: If CUSAT changes the total seats for a programme, the closing rank for that branch shifts accordingly. Any new branch added also redistributes competition.

CUSAT CAT 2026 Cutoff: Course-Wise Closing Ranks

CUSAT offers B.Tech programmes at two campuses: School of Engineering (SOE), Thrikkakkara and Cochin University College of Engineering, Kuttanad (CUCEK). SOE is the main campus with tighter closing ranks for popular branches.

CUCEK Kuttanad has significantly higher closing rank numbers, making it more accessible for mid-range rankers. Use the data below to plan your option entry for 2026.

CUCEK Kuttanad 2024 Closing Ranks

The 2024 closing ranks for CUCEK Kuttanad are listed below under General Merit / All India.

Branch 2024 Closing Rank
Computer Science & Engineering 6,161
Electronics & Communication Engineering 10,355
Information Technology 13,419
Electrical & Electronics Engineering 14,469
Civil Engineering 16,724

If your rank falls between 5,000 and 16,000, CUCEK Kuttanad is your realistic target. CSE, ECE, and IT were accessible in this range in 2024.

The official CUSAT CAT 2026 closing ranks will be published at admissions.cusat.ac.in after each allotment round. The 2025 CUCEK data and 2025 Mechanical/Naval/Safety data will be updated here once officially released.

CUSAT CAT Cutoff: Category-Wise

CUSAT reserves seats for multiple categories under Kerala’s reservation policy. Each category has a separate closing rank. A candidate in a reserved category with a rank of 5,000 may still get CSE at SOE — something not possible under General Merit at that rank. Check your eligible category and its corresponding closing rank before finalising option entry.

Category Description CSE SOE — Approx. Closing Rank (2025 Reference) 2026 Status
General Merit (GM) All India / Open Merit 728 To be announced
OBC Other Backward Communities Approx. 2,500 To be announced
OEC Other Eligible Communities (Kerala) Approx. 3,000 To be announced
EWS Economically Weaker Section Approx. 2,800 To be announced
SC Scheduled Caste Approx. 4,500 To be announced
BPL Below Poverty Line Approx. 5,000 To be announced
ST Scheduled Tribe Approx. 6,000 To be announced
PWD Person with Disability Approx. 7,000 To be announced

Category-wise approximate closing ranks are based on historical reservation patterns at CUSAT. Official 2026 figures will appear at admissions.cusat.ac.in after Round 1 allotment.

Can I compete under both General Merit and my reserved category at the same time?

Yes. During option entry, fill your branch-campus preferences as usual. CUSAT’s system first checks your eligibility under General Merit.

If your rank does not get you a seat under GM, it automatically checks reserved quota seats for your category. You do not need to apply separately for each category. The system handles both in a single option entry process.

CUSAT CAT Previous Year Cutoff Trends

Tracking CUSAT CAT closing ranks over three years shows which branches are growing more competitive. The data below is for SOE Thrikkakkara under General Merit.

It covers 2023 to 2025 for the four branches with the most consistently available data.

Branch — SOE Thrikkakkara 2023 Closing Rank 2024 Closing Rank 2025 Closing Rank 2-Year Change
Computer Science & Engineering 2,388 1,055 728 Tightened by 1,660 ranks
Electronics & Communication Engineering 2,893 2,048 943 Tightened by 1,950 ranks
Electrical & Electronics Engineering 2,558 3,340 1,233 Tightened by 1,325 ranks
Civil Engineering 3,165 8,537 2,772 Loosened by 393 ranks

CSE at SOE has tightened every year without exception. The closing rank moved from 2,388 in 2023 to 728 in 2025 — a total shift of 1,660 ranks.

ECE showed the sharpest single-year move: it fell 1,105 ranks from 2,048 in 2024 to 943 in 2025. EEE bounced upward in 2024 before tightening sharply in 2025, ending 1,325 ranks tighter than 2023.

Civil Engineering remains volatile. The 2024 closing rank widened by 5,372 ranks to 8,537 before recovering to 2,772 in 2025.

Expected CUSAT CAT Cutoff 2026

The CUSAT CAT 2026 B.Tech closing ranks have not been released yet. The expected ranges below are based on the two-year trend at SOE Thrikkakkara for General Merit candidates. These are not official figures and will be updated after Round 1 allotment.

Branch — SOE Thrikkakkara 2025 Closing Rank Expected 2026 Closing Rank Range
Computer Science & Engineering 728 580 – 720
Electronics & Communication Engineering 943 780 – 950
Electrical & Electronics Engineering 1,233 1,000 – 1,300
Information Technology 1,570 1,300 – 1,600
Civil Engineering 2,772 2,400 – 3,200
CUCEK CSE (reference) 2024: 6,161 5,500 – 7,000

Expected ranges are indicative only. Actual closing ranks will be published at admissions.cusat.ac.in after each allotment round.

CSE and ECE have tightened by roughly 300 to 700 ranks per year at SOE. If that pace continues, a rank under 700 is the safe target for CSE. For CUCEK, closing ranks are roughly 6 to 12 ranks higher per branch than SOE. Apply a similar multiplier when estimating your chances at CUCEK for 2026.

Rank Planning Advice

For CSE and ECE at SOE, the three-year trend is consistent. Using the 2025 closing rank as your planning baseline is reasonable.

For branches like Civil and Mechanical, the trend is more volatile. In all cases, add a buffer of at least 100–200 ranks above the 2025 closing rank when setting your personal target. The official 2026 cutoff will only be confirmed after Round 1 allotment.

ECE and CSE are converging fast. The gap between their closing ranks fell from 505 ranks in 2023 to 215 ranks in 2025. By 2026, the two branches may be nearly equal in competition at SOE.

CUSAT CAT Cutoff: Counselling Process

CUSAT CAT admissions follow a centralised online counselling process. The closing ranks (cutoff) are determined after each round of seat allotment. Here is how the process works for B.Tech 2026.

  • Step 1 — Registration: Log in to admissions.cusat.ac.in with your CUSAT CAT 2026 application number and password. Complete your counselling registration and upload required documents.
  • Step 2 — Option Entry: Fill your branch and campus preferences in priority order. You can list multiple combinations: SOE CSE, SOE ECE, CUCEK CSE, and so on. The last date for B.Tech option entry is June 28, 2026.
  • Step 3 — Lock Choices: Once you finalise your preference list, lock it before the deadline. Locked choices cannot be edited. They are treated as final for allotment.
  • Step 4 — Round 1 Allotment: CUSAT allots seats based on rank, preferences, category, and seat availability. Round 1 allotment is expected in late June or early July 2026.
  • Step 5 — Fee Payment: Accept your allotted seat and pay the admission fee within the given deadline. Non-payment cancels your seat for that round.
  • Step 6 — Round 2 and Spot Round: If you reject Round 1 allotment or were not allotted a seat, participate in Round 2. Remaining seats after all rounds go to a spot round.
  • Step 7 — Reporting: After final allotment acceptance, report to your allotted college for document verification and admission confirmation.

CUSAT CAT 2026 Closing Ranks and Counselling: Key Questions Answered

What rank is needed for CSE at SOE Thrikkakkara in 2026?

Based on the 2025 closing rank of 728 and the two-year trend, a rank under 720 is likely needed for CSE at SOE Thrikkakkara in Round 1. To be safe, target a rank under 600.

For CUCEK CSE, the 2024 closing rank was 6,161. A rank under 6,000 gives a reasonable chance there.

Is the CUSAT CAT cutoff the same for all categories?

No. Each category (GM, SC, ST, OBC, OEC, EWS, BPL, PWD) has a separate closing rank.

Reserved category closing ranks sit at much higher rank numbers than General Merit. A candidate with a rank of 5,000 under SC may still get CSE at SOE. A General Merit candidate at the same rank would not qualify for CSE at SOE.

Difference between SOE and CUCEK closing ranks

SOE Thrikkakkara is CUSAT's main campus and has much tighter closing ranks. In 2024, CSE at SOE closed at rank 1,055 while CSE at CUCEK Kuttanad closed at rank 6,161 — a difference of 5,106 ranks.

If your rank is above 3,000 for core branches, CUCEK is a more realistic target than SOE.

Last date for CUSAT CAT 2026 option entry

The last date for B.Tech option entry has been extended to June 28, 2026. Fill and lock your branch-campus preference list before this deadline.

Choices locked at the end of the window are treated as final for Round 1 allotment. Log in at admissions.cusat.ac.in to complete this step.

Number of counselling rounds in 2026

CUSAT typically conducts two to three main rounds of allotment. A spot round follows for remaining vacant seats.

  • Each round has its own fee payment and acceptance deadline.
  • Missing a deadline in any round cancels your allotted seat for that round.
  • You can still participate in the next round if seats remain.

Do closing ranks change after each round?

Yes. The closing rank typically loosens with each successive round. In Round 1, only top-ranked candidates get allotted.

In later rounds, as some candidates reject or upgrade their seats, those vacancies go to candidates with higher rank numbers. A branch that closed at rank 700 in Round 1 might close at rank 1,200 by the final round.

Can I improve my allotted seat in Round 2?

Yes. Pay the fee after Round 1 allotment to hold your current seat. If a better branch opens up in Round 2 and your rank qualifies, the system will upgrade your allotment.

Participating in Round 2 does not cancel your Round 1 seat automatically. You only lose your Round 1 seat if you explicitly reject it.

Where to check official closing ranks

The official closing ranks are published on the CUSAT admissions portal at admissions.cusat.ac.in. Look for "Last Rank Details" or the seat allotment result page after each round.

CUSAT also maintains a historical archive of last-rank data for previous years on the same portal.

*The article might have information for the previous academic years, which will be updated soon subject to the notification issued by the University/College.

What is the CUSAT CAT cutoff 2026?

The 2026 closing ranks will be published at admissions.cusat.ac.in after Round 1 allotment, expected in late June or early July 2026.

Will the CUSAT CAT 2026 cutoff be tighter than 2025?

Based on the three-year trend, CSE and ECE at SOE have tightened by roughly 300 to 700 ranks each year. If the trend continues, CSE may close around 580-700 in 2026.

The final closing rank depends on how many top-ranked students accept their allotted seats. Treat 2025 closing ranks as your minimum target and build in a buffer of at least 100 ranks.

What rank do I need for CSE at SOE Thrikkakkara in 2026?

Based on the 2025 closing rank of 728 and the two-year trend, a rank under 720 is likely needed for CSE at SOE Thrikkakkara in Round 1. To be safe, target a rank under 600.

If your rank does not get you a seat under GM, it automatically checks reserved quota seats for your category. You do not need to apply separately for each category. The system handles both in a single option entry process.

CUSAT CAT Result Previous Year Statistics

CUSAT CAT has stayed steady at around one lakh candidates each year, with the BTech rank list growing slowly as more seats get added. The table below shows the trend across the last four cycles.

YearCandidates Appeared (approx.)Result DateCounselling Rounds
20261,00,000+June 11, 2026To be announced

202495,000+Third week of June4 rounds
202390,000+Last week of June3 rounds
202285,000+First week of July3 rounds

The closing rank for the most-wanted BTech branch – Computer Science and Engineering at CUSAT main campus – has tightened sharply over the last three years. Here is what the General All India category looked like in the last round of counselling:

YearBTech CSE Closing Rank (General AI)
20252,866
20242,676
20234,753
20225,200 (approx.)

The CSE closing rank has roughly halved in three years – from above 5,000 in 2022 to under 3,000 in 2024 and 2025. So if you are aiming for CSE this year, expect the cutoff to stay in the same tight range.

To appear in the BTech rank list, you must clear the subject-wise minimum marks. For most candidates, the cutoff is at least 10 marks in Mathematics and at least 10 marks combined in Physics and Chemistry.

Missing either minimum means your name will not appear in the rank list.

Marking Scheme and Score Calculation

CUSAT CAT uses a plus-three and minus-one marking system. There is no sectional cutoff for ranking; your total score decides your All India rank.

Particulars Details
Total Questions 150
Question Type Multiple choice (MCQ)
Total Marks 450
Marks per Correct Answer +3
Negative Marking –1 per wrong answer
Unattempted Questions No marks deducted

Your total score is calculated as: (Correct answers × 3) – (Wrong answers × 1). The All India rank is prepared by sorting all qualifying candidates from highest to lowest score.

Tie-breaking is done by Mathematics marks first, then by age, with the older candidate getting the better rank.

CUSAT CAT Rank List 2026

CUSAT publishes the rank list as a course-wise PDF on the official portal. Each course, including BTech, Integrated MSc, MCA, LLB, MTech, MSc, and MBA, has its own list.

The PDF contains the application number, name, total score, and All India rank of every selected candidate. For BTech alone, 28,225 candidates have made it to the rank list in 2026.

The rank list is the only document used for counselling. If your name is on it, you can register; if not, you cannot.

The rank list is also split category-wise. Even if your All India rank is low, your category rank (OBC, EWS, Kerala SC, Kerala ST, PwD) decides which seats you are eligible for during counselling. Check both numbers before filling preferences.

High All India Rank but Name in Rank List

Yes, you can still get a seat. Many seats are reserved under Kerala state quota, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, PwD, and management categories.

Your category rank or quota rank may be much better than your All India rank. Fill your preferences widely and wait through at least the first two allotment rounds.

CUSAT CAT 2026 Toppers

The CUSAT CAT 2026 BTech rank list is led by Abhinav Arun, who secured rank 1. The top three were closely placed, with leading scorers concentrated near the upper end of the 450-mark scale.

Rank Candidate Name
1 Abhinav Arun
2 Nived Venugopalan
3 Alfred Jensen

The full toppers list, from rank 1 to rank 100, is available in the course-wise BTech rank list PDF on the official site.

CUSAT CAT Cutoff 2026

The CUSAT CAT cutoff is the lowest rank at which a candidate gets a seat in a given branch, category, and quota. It is not announced before counselling.

The cutoff comes out round by round as seats fill up. The 2026 cutoff will only be clear after the first allotment in late June.

CUSAT CAT 2026 Cutoff Ranks

The 2025 cutoff is the best reference for CUSAT CAT 2026. The table below lists the closing ranks for popular BTech branches at the main campus under the General All India quota.

BTech Branch 2025 Closing Rank (General AI) 2024 Closing Rank (General AI)
Computer Science & Engineering 2,866 2,676
Information Technology 4,500 (approx.) 4,200 (approx.)
Electronics & Communication 6,800 (approx.) 6,500 (approx.)
Mechanical Engineering 11,000 (approx.) 10,500 (approx.)
Civil Engineering 14,500 (approx.) 13,800 (approx.)
Safety & Fire Engineering 18,000 (approx.) 17,200 (approx.)

Reserved-category cutoffs are lower. For Kerala SC, ST, and OBC quotas, closing ranks can be two to four times deeper than the General AI numbers above.

Detailed category and round-wise cutoffs will appear on admissions.cusat.ac.in after each allotment round.

Counselling After CUSAT CAT 2026 Result

Counselling is the next step after the rank list is released. The entire process is online, including registration, option entry, seat allotment, and fee payment.

Document verification happens physically at the allotted college after the seat is locked. The sequence is as follows:

  • Counselling registration: Log in to admissions.cusat.ac.in and confirm participation. A registration fee is charged at this stage.
  • Option entry: List course-college combinations in order of preference. Fill as many as possible, as an empty preference cannot get a seat.
  • Seat allotment: CUSAT matches rank, category, quota, and preferences. The first allotment list is then released.
  • Reporting and fee payment: Pay the seat acceptance fee online within the deadline if allotted. Missing the deadline means losing the seat.
  • Document verification: Report at the allotted college with originals, including the CUSAT CAT rank card, Class 10 and 12 marksheets, photo ID, category certificate, transfer certificate, and other documents listed in the brochure.
  • Further rounds: Opt for sliding or upgradation in later rounds if the first allotment is not satisfactory. There are usually three to four rounds in total.

The full counselling schedule will be published on the CUSAT admissions portal in the second half of June 2026. Keep documents ready and check the portal daily, as rounds move fast and missed deadlines cannot be reopened.
