About
The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) invites engineering students to design and build an autonomous underwater vehicle through its annual Student Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (SAVe) competition. The program challenges teams to develop innovative underwater technologies for ocean observation and data collection. Participants gain hands-on experience in robotics, sensors, and marine engineering while contributing to real-world ocean research needs.
Eligibility
Open to students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate engineering degrees in India. Teams typically consist of 3–5 members, including a faculty mentor. There are no income or mark-based restrictions, but participants must be enrolled in a recognized Indian engineering institution. Some editions may prioritize teams with prior robotics or autonomous systems experience.
How to apply
Register your team on the official NIOT website and submit a concept note or proposal as per the guidelines. Include technical details such as design specifications, sensor integration, and mission objectives. Shortlisted teams are invited for further stages, including prototype testing and final demonstrations. Refer to the SAVe competition page for updated participation rules and submission formats.
