About
The Biotech Industrial Training Programme (BITP) is a six-month government initiative for biotechnology students to gain hands-on industrial experience. Managed by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, and executed by Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL), BITP bridges the gap between academia and industry. It helps students enhance job prospects while enabling biotech firms to scout potential talent. Trainees receive a monthly stipend and companies are reimbursed bench fees to cover training costs. Applications are invited from students and companies jointly, ensuring mutual benefits.
Eligibility
Open to Indian biotechnology students at any study level—undergraduate, postgraduate, or doctoral—seeking industrial training. There are no income or mark-based restrictions. Applicants must secure a training placement with a biotech company recognized by DBT. Preference may be given to candidates with prior biotech coursework or relevant lab experience. No specific category reservations are mentioned in the official scheme details.
How to apply
Students must first identify and secure a training position with a DBT-approved biotech company. The company then submits a requisition to DBT via Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL). Students apply through the company’s nomination, submitting academic records and a training proposal. The official page lists the current application format, required documents, and submission deadlines. Final selection is based on academic merit and company recommendations.
