About

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the national-level entrance exam for admission to undergraduate (LLB) and postgraduate (LLM) law programmes at 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) across India. It is designed for students who have completed or are pursuing Class 12 or graduation in law, depending on the programme they wish to join. CLAT assesses candidates' aptitude in areas such as English, legal reasoning, logical reasoning, mathematics, and general knowledge. The exam is conducted once a year, and qualifying it is the primary pathway for securing a seat in these prestigious law institutions.

Eligibility

Candidates must have passed Class 12 for undergraduate programmes or hold a graduate degree in law for postgraduate programmes. There is no upper age limit. Reserved category candidates (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwD) are eligible for relaxation as per government norms. Applicants must ensure they meet the minimum qualifying marks specified by the participating NLUs for their respective categories.

How to apply

Applications for CLAT are accepted online through the official website. Candidates must register, fill in personal and academic details, upload required documents, and pay the application fee. The application form, information brochure, and previous years' question papers are available for purchase at designated State Bank of India (SBI) branches and NLU campuses. Online applications open on the same date as the sale of brochures. Candidates should verify eligibility and prepare documents such as caste certificates (if applicable) and disability certificates (for PwD candidates) before applying.
