About
The Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) offers funding to Indian biotech start-ups, small and medium enterprises, and other for-profit private companies through its Small Business Innovation Research Initiative (SBIRI). This programme supports early-stage research and proof-of-concept projects based on valid scientific hypotheses, with a focus on affordable product development. SBIRI is a public-private partnership programme managed by BIRAC, a not-for-profit public sector company established by the Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.
Eligibility
Applicants must be Indian biotechnology start-ups, small or medium enterprises, or other for-profit private companies. The project must involve early-stage research or proof-of-concept work based on a valid scientific hypothesis. There are no specific marks, income, or study-level requirements mentioned for applicants, but the project must align with BIRAC’s innovation and affordability objectives.

Check the official BIRAC page for the current call for proposals. Prepare a detailed project proposal including objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes. Submit the proposal through the designated application portal or process as specified in the current call.
