About
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national-level exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to assess the eligibility of teachers for classes I to VIII. It ensures that teachers meet the minimum qualifications required by the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The test sets national benchmarks for teacher quality, encourages teacher education institutions to improve standards, and signals the government’s focus on enhancing teaching standards across India.
Eligibility
CTET is open to Indian citizens who meet the educational qualifications set by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). For classes I-V, candidates need a Senior Secondary certificate with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education. For classes VI-VIII, a Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks and a 1-year Bachelor in Education is required. There is no upper age limit.
How to apply
Applications for CTET are submitted online through the official CTET portal. Candidates must register, fill in personal and educational details, upload required documents, and pay the application fee. After submission, the admit card is issued, and candidates appear for the exam at designated centers. Results are declared on the same portal, and qualified candidates receive an eligibility certificate.
