The IIPS Ph.D. fellowship is a Government of India-funded residential programme for students seeking a Doctor of Philosophy in Population Studies. It is designed for candidates who wish to pursue advanced research in demography and related fields. The fellowship covers a fixed monthly stipend and is awarded for a duration of three years, subject to the institute's guidelines.

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Population Studies, Statistics, Economics, Sociology, or a related discipline with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/EBC/DNT/PwD). Applicants should be below 35 years of age as on the application deadline. Preference may be given to candidates with prior research experience or publications.
